Evonik Unveils PLEXIGLAS® Hi-Gloss NTA-5 PMMA for Non-transparent Car Body Parts

Evonik's new PLEXIGLAS® Hi-Gloss NTA-5 is highly suitable for non-transparent car body components. This specialty product is a consistent further development within the PLEXIGLAS® Hi-Gloss range that offers even higher impact strength than before, combined with an excellent heat deflection temperature under load, which opens up new fields of application, such as front and rear vehicle undercarriage components.
This is a fitting example of the durability and innovative power of PLEXIGLAS®: the specialty molding compounds of the PLEXIGLAS® Hi-Gloss range are materials that have long proved their worth in automotive construction, where they are used for injection- molded components with molded-in color that make subsequent painting superfluous. Dispensing with this work step makes it very economical to injection-mold these compounds into colored, non-transparent car body parts, providing component savings of up to 40% as compared with coated systems.
Beyond this, the components offer maximum color depth and weather resistance for the entire service life of the vehicle. What’s more, small scratches on their high-gloss Class-A surface can be removed by polishing. This adds up to a raft of reasons why all of the well-known OEMs successfully use PLEXIGLAS® Hi-Gloss molding compounds for add-on car body parts.
Evonik is a worldwide manufacturer of PMMA products sold under the PLEXIGLAS® trademark on the European, Asian, African and Australian continents and under the ACRYLITE® trademark in the Americas.
