At K 2016 in Düsseldorf (October 19 to 26, 2016, Hall 15, Booths B27/C24/C27/D24), KraussMaffei Berstorff, as a system provider, will present its cost-effective and efficient overall concepts in extrusion technology. With a high-performance product portfolio, the company impressively meets the growing demand for efficient production. OEE Plus: QuickSwitch Technology now up to 500 mm – to boost equipment availability

QuickSwitch, which has been successfully established on the market for over ten years and is the only system in this form for automatic dimension change, stands for exemplary cost-optimized production. “All processors strive to minimize downtimes for their systems, but at the same time they must be able to process the most diverse orders,” explains Roos. “With the patented system, many of our regular customers often produce on several machines. But also many small companies quickly recognize the advantages of maximum availability where serving little niche markets is involved,” says Roos. “The advantages the system offers are obvious: less scrap when changing means optimized material consumption, minimized storage and labor costs, short set-up times, greater flexibility and high supply availability thanks to small batch sizes”. Factors that have a positive effect on cost-efficiency in particular in the case of large diameters. The QuickSwitch calibration basket can be seen for the diameter range 280 – 500 mm at K 2016.

OEE Plus: High-performance extrusion to boost performance with standard pipe products

“When the production of standard pipes is involved, a performance with consistently top product quality is the decisive factor for maintaining a competitive edge,” explains Roos. The extruder combination of two twin-screw extruders KMD 108-36 E2/R is designed for a strong performance in a confined space. Processors from the area of PVC pipes are compelled to make the mass-produced PVC sewage pipes in continuous operation at top performance in order to improve the very low profit margins with this application. “Our system has extremely low space requirements, and is extremely powerful and also very energy-efficient – factors that make this combination very attractive with regard to economical production,” stresses Roos. The flow-channel-optimized pipe head series complements the extruder combination and ensures consistent premium quality for end products.

OEE Plus: Foam extrusion systems to boost quality

“The proven foam extrusion systems from KraussMaffei Berstorff ensure optimum results – right from the start. Schaumex and Schaumtandex systems have all the OEE features, such as availability, consistent performance and top product quality,” explains Roos. The standardized equipment reliably produces premium-quality foam pipes, sheets, foils and profiles. The machine components of Schaumtandex systems that determine quality include the twin-screw extruders. Their modular configuration makes possible optimally coordinated process units for compounding. They process a wide range of standard and many high-temperature plastics, as well as powdery additives and liquid blowing agents. The Tandex cooling extruders provide cooling capacities of up to 110 kW/m2 °K thanks to the use of pressurized water and a special screw profile. This leads to particularly uniform cooling of the melt.
