Turkey: Wind turbine construction increases by 7 percent

Baspar / Iranpolymer The share of renewable energy sources in Turkey’s energy mix is expected to increase by 5 percentage points to 40 percent this year. At just over 10,000 MW, wind energy accounts for around a tenth of the country’s electricity generation capacity. As the Turkish Wind Energy Association has now announced, the available wind power capacity is expected to grow by 7 percent over the course of this year.

Turkish composites manufacturers are benefiting from the increasing share of wind energy in the energy mix. According to the Turkish Association of Composite Material Manufacturers, domestic production of composite materials has increased between 8 and 12 percent in recent years. “Glass fiber reinforced plastic will continue to be a driving force in this sector thanks to local demand and needs in neighboring countries,” said TCMA Secretary General Ismail Hakki Hacialioglu. In addition to wind power, applications in the shipping, automotive and transport sectors played an important role.
