{"id":107126,"date":"2024-10-16T09:18:36","date_gmt":"2024-10-16T05:48:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/polymervapooshesh.ir\/?p=107126"},"modified":"2024-11-02T08:14:56","modified_gmt":"2024-11-02T04:44:56","slug":"2024-bpf-horners-award-winners-announced","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/polymervapooshesh.ir\/en\/2024-bpf-horners-award-winners-announced\/","title":{"rendered":"2024 BPF Horners Award winners announced"},"content":{"rendered":"<p dir=\"ltr\"><em><strong>Iranpolymer\/Baspar <\/strong><\/em>The winners of the\u00a0BPF\u00a0Horners Awards for Plastics Innovation and Design, the Bottlemakers Award and the David Williams Award were presented with their trophies at the Horners Annual Banquet on 3 October 2024.<\/p>\n<ul dir=\"ltr\">\n<li><strong>Plastics Innovation and Design 2024<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">The\u00a0BPF\u00a0Horners Award for Plastics Innovation and Design was\u00a0<strong>Loughborough University<\/strong>\u2019s \u2018Next-Generation Additive Manufactured Police Body Armour\u2019.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Led by Andrew Johnson, the team at the university\u00a0developed polymer laser-sintered and hybrid aramid laser-sintered body armour panels. These can provide\u00a0multi-strike protection against knife, spike\u00a0and handgun ballistic threats in line with the UK Home Office\u2019s Body Armour Standard. The judges were impressed with how the design\u00a0significantly improves\u00a0comfort for female police officers.<\/p>\n<ul dir=\"ltr\">\n<li><strong>Bottlemakers Award 2024<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">The winner of the Bottlemakers Award was\u00a0<strong>Hawkins Mutes<\/strong>\u00a0with its blow moulded Brass Instrument Mutes.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Crafted from high-quality ABS plastic and\u00a0known for its durability and stiffness, it provides exceptional acoustic properties. The material guarantees the longevity of the mutes while\u00a0delivering a rich and\u00a0warm tone.\u00a0The Horners committee considered the product as a great example of the UK&#8217;s excellence in design and manufacturing. Hawkins Mutes&#8217;\u00a0commitment to domestic design and manufacturing has bolstered the local economy but\u00a0allowed them to maintain rigorous quality control standards.<\/p>\n<ul dir=\"ltr\">\n<li><strong>David Williams Award 2024<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">This year\u2019s David Wiliams Award (for those who make an outstanding contribution to society through plastics) went to\u00a0<strong>Isabel Payne<\/strong>\u00a0for her invention of the SafiCase.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Payne discovered that a singular menstrual cup replaces 10 years\u2019 worth of single-use sanitary products.\u00a0With approximately 500 million women relying on sanitary products distributed monthly by charities, the menstrual cup could\u00a0be a great\u00a0option. However, research shows menstrual cups cannot be distributed because they&#8217;re difficult to clean without using a\u00a0large amount of clean water and a main electrical connection.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">The \u2018Saficase\u2019 is an all-in-one solution for both cleaning and sterilising\u00a0menstrual cups, involving minimal water. It&#8217;s made using medical grade silicone, HDPE, and PP, and\u00a0uses a steam sterilising circuit powered by a modular solar battery base, which only needs 15ml water and is charged with 24 hours of sunlight per month.
