Iran Minister of Industry, Mine and Trade, Mohammad Reza Nematzadeh, said that currently abundant raw materials which can be transformed into petrochemical products are being burned in Iran\u2019s offshore and Kharg Island. \u201cWe shouldn\u2019t burn gases heavier than methane since they are the best feed for production of polymers,\u201d he added.
\n\u201cWhen I was in charge of National Petrochemical Company, we tried to transform part of these resources into more value added materials by establishing petrochemical units in Mahshahr and Asaluyeh. Now we should plan to transform the rich gas of Bidboland 2 and Parsian refineries into petrochemical materials as well,\u201d said Nematzadeh in an exclusive interview with news committee of IRANPLAST.
\n\u201cTo transform these resources to petrochemical materials the private sector of the industry should collaborate with petrochemical, oil and gas companies,\u201d he said. \u201cAs Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution has said we should stop exporting raw materials. In this regard the best way of benefiting from gas resources is transforming them into petrochemical materials and subsequently completing the production chain.\u201d
\nNematzadeh underlined that production of polymers is one of the petrochemical industry priorities. \u201cThe reason is that the natural gas and the oil field gases contain ethane which can be used to expand the petrochemical and polymer industries. Therefore, a big investment is made by both the government and the private sector of the industry.\u201d
\nHe said that according to the country\u2019s plans we should have a 10-million ton capacity for polymer production today. We currently have a capacity of 7.8 million tons and produce about 6 million tons.
\n\u201cSuch a high production capacity needs a powerful downstream industry, therefore in 2002 we decided to arrange an international exhibition in which information about new technologies, machinery and production lines could be exchanged,\u201d Nematzadeh said about the first IRANPLAST exhibition that was held in 2002. \u201cThe K Trade Fair which is held every three years was a good template for how and in which level we could organize the IRANPLAST exhibitions.\u201d
\nNematzadeh expressed his gratitude to the managers and organizers of IRANPLAST exhibition and stressed that the presence of 500 domestic companies and 250 foreign companies shows that the exhibition has been welcomed.
