The manufacture and import for sale of these items has been prohibited since 2022. Manufacture, import and sale for export of these items will be prohibited beginning in 2025.<br \/>\nAn exception to the regulations will allow the purchase of plastic flexible single-use drinking straws, intended to preserve access for those with medical needs.<br \/>\nCanada\u2019s Department of the Environment and Department of Health published a\u00a0science assessment\u00a0on plastic pollution in 2020. The report concluded that macroplastics in the environment cause direct physical harm to organisms and adversely impact habitats.
