Iranpolymer/Baspar UK-based, independent recycling and waste management company Clearpoint Recycling has announced the signing of an exclusive contract with specialist polyethylene terephthalate (PET) recycler Enviroo.
Under the agreement, Clearpoint Recycling is responsible for supplying material to Enviroo’s new waste plastics recycling plant at Protos Park, Ellesmere Port.
When the facility opens in 2027, Clearpoint Recycling will deliver more than 30,000 tonnes of recyclable PET material each year. The plant will convert waste plastics into certified food-grade recycled PET (rPET) to meet the growing demand in the global market.
The partnership allows Clearpoint Recycling to use its vast UK network to implement a truly circular economy-focused supply chain solution and enables Enviroo to continually produce the purest recycled polymers to meet the legislation requirements faced by all packaging producers. The scale of the deal marks a significant milestone for Clearpoint Recycling. It reinforces the vital role of supply chain specialists in facilitating the supply and sales of material throughout the recycling industry.
“The plant is a much-needed outlet for PET to be converted into certified food-grade rPET, which the UK market is crying out for,” said Mark Garrett, managing director at Clearpoint Recycling. “It aligns with the UK’s plans to implement a deposit return scheme on PET bottles in 2027, which we will be in a strong position to handle, ensuring market materials are secured.
“We look forward to working with our existing partners and invite offers from other suppliers to feed into the plant. This will be one of only three food-grade rPET facilities in the UK,” he continued.
Enviroo is able to completely recycle PET, the main material used for food and beverage packaging, helping to divert it from landfills or ending up in the ocean. The company is focused on construction and commissioning high-impact recycling plants for production and ongoing operations.
Ahmed Detta, CEO of Enviroo, noted that the agreement with Clearpoint Recycling is a significant step forward in strengthening the UK’s circular economy. The company is developing intelligent recycling initiatives that will ultimately bring consumers, governments, and operators together to work towards a common goal, harnessed with full transparency of the recycling process.
“By securing a consistent, high-quality supply of PET material, we are ensuring that our facility at Ellesmere Port will play a crucial role in turning waste into valuable, certified, food-grade recycled PET. This partnership not only underscores our commitment to sustainability but also contributes to job creation in the community and innovation in the recycling sector. Together, we are driving a more sustainable future for the UK and beyond.”
