New EPDM Sponge Grades

Ethylene-propylene-diene rubber (EPDM) is widely used in many applications and provides process ability and properties which cannot be achieved by Natural rubber (NR) and many other synthetic rubbers.
Because of no double bond on the main back bone, EPDM has got excellent heat, weather and ozone resistance. Naturally EPDM provides good electrical insulation as well as long life in severe service conditions. EPDM can be filled with high loading of fillers and process oil to achieve the minimum cost of compound by keeping suitable functional characteristics.
Mitsui Chemicals is a pioneer EPDM producer with Zigler-Nata and Metallocene catalyst from long time ago. Using Metallocene catalyst provides low chlorine content and gel in raw rubber, higher mechanical properties and good process ability. Mitsui Chemicals EPDM is marketing with the name of EPT grades cover a wide range of Mooney Viscosity, Ethylene content, ENB content and oil extended ones.
Recently this company has developed two new grades for sponge production:

EPT9090M as a non-oil extended is designed for good process ability and sponge production too.9090M has got very high ENB content (14.2%) to facilitate very fast curing and smooth surface in extruded profiles or molded parts with good sponge properties. In addition, this grade has precisely designed with long chain branching to realize lower density and excellent shape retention during foaming process.
EPT8030M is hyper branch EPDM developed for very low density sponge. Mitsui Chemicals Metallocene technology realized precisely controlled branching structure as well as high amount of chain branching . Due to hyper branch structure, foam density is improved and very low density sponge with excellent shape retention and excellent surface can be achieved. 8030M has got 9.5 % unsaturation content (ENB content).
