Kiefel to unveil faster thermoformer for recycled PET at K

Iranpolymer/Baspar  Kiefel will celebrate its 70th anniversary at this year’s K Show with new developments in thermoforming, fibre packaging, and sustainability.

The Germany-based packaging machinery manufacturer will emphasise solutions that address efficiency, digitalisation, and environmental concerns.

One of the key highlights at Kiefel’s booth will be the Speedformer KTR 6.2 Speed tilting machine, a new generation of thermoforming equipment designed to improve material consumption and line performance. The machine, which can produce high-quality cups from materials like recycled PET, has been tested in collaboration with Coexpan to explore how rPET can be used effectively in production.

With new features such as SpeedGuard film guide and ProSpacing system, the Speedformer KTR 6.2 aims to increase output and flexibility while handling a range of product shapes. Attendees will also be able to see a digital twin of the machine at the Siemens booth (Hall 3, Stand D16), providing a look at the potential benefits of virtual project support.

Kiefel is again focusing on fibre packaging. The Natureformer KFT Lab will show how pulp can be used to create margarine shells through a new process called the Double-Dip Process. This method enhances the packaging’s barrier properties, making it better suited for oils and fats while being recyclable within the circular economy.

Additionally, Kiefel will present dry-fibre technology that produces packaging directly from paper rolls, such as trays and beverage lids. This method is designed for high-volume production, with the potential to produce up to 70 million units annually. The integration of both wet and dry fibre processes highlights Kiefel’s approach to tailoring solutions to the specific needs of different applications.

Kiefel’s booth will also offer insight into its expanded Customer Innovation Centres, which aim to help businesses throughout the entire product development process.

Along with the featured technologies, Kiefel will also present solutions for medical technology and large-scale thermoforming systems. The company will showcase a product made from recycled plastic material in the VDMA pavilion, with a product pitch scheduled for Oct. 9 to discuss the technology’s potential in the circular economy.
